Studies Show The Gentle Vision Shaping System Prevents the Progression of Nearsightedness in Children

Recent studies have shown that Gentle Vision Shaping technology effectively slows and possibly even halts the progression of myopia in children.

One such study, "Controlling Astigmatism and Nearsightedness in Developing Youth" (CANDY Study) showed that modern corneal shaping lenses were effective in reducing the progression of nearsightedness in children between 9 and 18 years of age.  Corneal Topography Post OrthokeratologyThe CANDY Study involved children that wore Vision Shaping Lenses while they were asleep.

Other studies have also shown that the progression of nearsightedness can be prevented. The SMART Study (Stabilization of Myopia by Accelerated Reshaping Technique), a 4-year multi-center study, involving 300 patients, recently finished its clinical trial. Preliminary results from the study coordinators have reported that the Vision Shaping technology has shown to be effective in the prevention of myopia.

An important finding in studies trying to prove that orthokeratology  prevents the progression of nearsightedness is to show that the increase in the length of the eye (axial length) is slowed with orthokeratology. The 2009 study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Corneal Reshaping and Myopia Progression, showed that patients wearing orthoK lenses exhibited a 55% reduction in axial length growth.
